Choosing a European firewood producer: a buyer checklist
A useful supplier review starts with evidence, not slogans. Define the finished product, the documents and the delivery basis before comparing quotations.
Confirm who makes the product
Ask whether you are dealing with the producer or an intermediary, where processing takes place and who controls drying, packing and release.
Write the product specification
Record species, log length, split profile, moisture target, sampling method, packaging, label language and pallet requirements. A clear specification protects both buyer and producer.
Separate certification from quality
A moisture reading, a chain-of-custody claim and a market certification are different things. List each document your organisation needs and check that it applies to the product being purchased.
Compare complete offers
Include product quantity, packaging, freight basis, unloading requirements, payment terms and the process for reporting a problem. The lowest unit price is not always the lowest delivered cost.
