Moisture & kiln-drying — the short answers
What moisture content should firewood be below?
It depends on the destination, sales format and buyer specification. Put the required average, maximum reading and test method into the order.
How long does kiln-drying take?
Cycle time depends on species, starting moisture, log dimensions and equipment. Ask how the producer controls and records the agreed finished specification.
Why not just air-season?
Air drying is weather-dependent and can produce a wider range of readings. Controlled drying is chosen when repeatability and production scheduling matter.
What certification proves the moisture claim?
Moisture records and scheme certification are different documents. State which records and chain-of-custody claim your procurement process requires.
